Sustainable Economics - What is it?
What is sustainability investing?
Sustainability investing considers environmental and social responsibility to maximize your money’s value to yourself and society.
Why some companies don’t want you to care about sustainability (e.g. fossil fuel companies):
Some companies make money by harming the environment and/or people and they don’t want you to stop investing in them, so they attack sustainability (ESG) investing. They focus on short-term profits and ignore the need for a sustainable future.
Actions:
Where your money goes matters (consumption and investing). Contact your Human Resources department and make sure they have sustainability (ESG) related investment options.
Teach others to consume and invest with sustainability in mind.
What is needed in today’s capitalism for a sustainable economy?
Hold polluters accountable to reduce pollution and to pay for clean up.
Give the younger generation more power to build a sustainable economy that is environmentally and socially responsible. Replace terrible metrics like GDP (Gross Domestic Product) when measuring societal success.
